The Impact and Innovation Award was presented to Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD).
This recognition was bestowed upon him in acknowledgment of the achievements attained through the collaborative efforts of NILDS and WFD, which have led to significant advancements in democracy in Nigeria.
During the award ceremony, Mr. Adebowale Olorunmola, the Country Director of WFD, presented the award on behalf of Michael Nevin, the Regional Director for Africa WFD.
He not only praised the Director General for his outstanding leadership but also commended his tireless endeavors in strengthening the effectiveness of parliaments, political parties, electoral bodies, and civil society organizations.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Sulaiman reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to the progress of democracy in Nigeria. He acknowledged that the award would serve as an inspiration for him to achieve even greater milestones, as it provides a heightened level of motivation that can significantly impact the sustainability of a dynamic and efficient legislature at the federal, state, and local levels within Nigeria.
