Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, has emphasized the need to establish a mechanism for effectively monitoring the impact of laws and policies on the living conditions of Nigerians.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Post-Legislative Scrutiny (PLS) unit at NILDS, Sulaiman highlighted the importance of such a mechanism in strengthening democratic values across the country.
He noted that the practice of PLS is critical for enhancing legislative effectiveness, ensuring that the true impacts of laws and policies are felt by citizens. According to him, PLS provides a framework for evaluating how legislation enacted by policymakers affects the daily lives of Nigerians.
Sulaiman further pointed out that citizens are more concerned with the tangible outcomes of government policies and legislation beyond the written words, stressing that this is a core objective of the PLS initiative.
