Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), has revealed that the Institute will give top priority to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda and “Renewed Hope” vision through the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly. Prof. Sulaiman made this announcement during his welcome speech at the 2-Day retreat for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, which was organized by NILDS in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
He emphasized that the purpose of the retreat is to offer the leadership of both Chambers an opportunity to exchange experiences, identify key legislative priorities for the 10th National Assembly, and explore methods to align the Legislative Agenda of their respective chambers with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda and “Renewed Hope” vision.
Prof. Sulaiman stressed that the essential path to realizing the President’s ambitious objectives is to ensure that the necessary legislative frameworks support government initiatives. Additionally, he noted that the retreat will foster bonding among the leaders and facilitate candid discussions on crucial issues facing the National Assembly.
The Director General also underscored the significance of focusing on the leadership of both Chambers due to their pivotal roles in shaping and executing the legislative agenda, as well as their broader responsibilities in ensuring the Senate and the House of Representatives function effectively. He highlighted that the leadership sets the tone for the Assembly’s overall operations, promotes democratic principles, and upholds the institution’s integrity.
Furthermore, Prof. Sulaiman described the retreat as one of several strategies aimed at enhancing communication between the Chambers and identifying shared policy and legislative goals. He emphasized that it serves as a platform for strengthening the relationship between the legislative and executive branches, both of which are led by current or former legislators. Consequently, he expressed the expectation that Nigerians will witness even greater achievements and significant legislative accomplishments in the pursuit of good governance during the 10th Assembly.
