Nilds Hosts Jigawa Anti-Corruption Delegation, Explores Capacity Building and Strategic Partnership

A delegation from the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, led by its Head of Delegation, Mr. Hassan Hashim, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, to explore opportunities for capacity building and institutional collaboration.

The engagement provided a platform for high-level discussions focused on strengthening governance frameworks and enhancing institutional effectiveness through structured training and technical support.

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation emphasized the urgent need for capacity development for staff of the Commission, particularly in the areas of institutional growth and operational effectiveness. He noted that such efforts are critical to improving performance and achieving sustainable governance outcomes.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, welcomed the delegation and reiterated the Institute’s mandate as the foremost capacity-building institution under the National Assembly, dedicated to supporting legislators and democratic institutions across Nigeria.

He expressed satisfaction with the positive reports received about the Commission, commending its achievements, the level of government support, and the progress made in advancing its mandate.

“Progress of this nature cannot be sustained without continuous capacity building,” he stated. “Structured training and institutional development remain fundamental to achieving long-term effectiveness.”

Prof. Sulaiman also underscored the need for states to establish and maintain strong institutions focused on anti-corruption and dispute resolution, describing these as essential pillars of effective governance.

Reaffirming NILDS’ commitment, he assured the delegation of the Institute’s readiness to partner with them.

“NILDS has the expertise, resources, and institutional capacity to support your Commission and enhance your operational capabilities,” he said.

He further noted that the Institute enjoys the backing of key leadership within the National Assembly, including the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, adding that such support can facilitate collaboration and provide access to capacity development opportunities.

Highlighting NILDS’ technical strengths, the Director-General pointed to key units such as Department of Training and international cooperation and Centre for Security Analysis as available platforms for collaboration and institutional support.

Prof. Sulaiman concluded by describing the visit as more than a routine engagement, but the beginning of a strategic partnership.

“This engagement marks the foundation for a mutually beneficial partnership, and we are fully prepared to provide the necessary support,” he added.
