In a continued effort to address the shortage of skilled legislative drafters in Nigeria, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies,.NILDS, has emphasized the importance of skilled legislative drafters.
Prof. Sulaiman made this known on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the Institute’s 4th Internship Program on Legislative Drafting.
While speaking, Prof. Sulaiman highlighted the critical need for the ability to draft clear, precise, and effective legislation. He emphasized that well-crafted laws, anchored on clear legislative principles, are vital for effective governance and can stand the test of time.
“In a democratic society, drafting clear, precise, and effective legislation is essential to ensure that laws are well-crafted and based on solid legislative principles. Graduates of this programme are filling the human resource gap in legislative drafting in national and subnational legislatures and beyond”
He underscored the role these graduates will play in shaping the future of the country’s legislative processes, ensuring that they contribute significantly to the development of well-formulated laws and policies.
Prof. Sulaiman encouraged the graduating interns to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained during the program to positively impact Nigeria’s legislative and democratic landscape.
