Akpabio Inagurates NILDS Governing Council, Pledges Commitment to Institute’s Advancement.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, has inagurated the 10th National Assembly Members of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS Governing Council.

The inauguration, marking the first NILDS Governing Council meeting held at the Institute’s state-of-the-art permanent site , was attended by the Alternate Chairman of the Governing Council and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D. alongside members of the Council and Prof. Abubakar O.Sulaiman, DG NILDS and Secretary to the Council.

During his remarks, Senator Akpabio highlighted that the Institute serves as a knowledge hub and is well-positioned to document and share the stories of the National Assembly.

He pledged his commitment to supporting NILDS in all aspects, particularly in its role as the only statutory agency empowered by an act of the National Assembly to provide training for legislators and legislative institutions, among other functions.

Speaking earlier, Rt.Hon Abbas reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to support the Institute in fulfilling its mandate. He emphasized that, together, they can shape the future of NILDS into an institution that not only meets but exceeds the contemporary needs of the Nigerian legislature.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, noted that the management of NILDS had made significant milestones within one year.

He expressed hope that NILDS would continue to enjoy the kind of support it had enjoyed in the last year under the 10th Assembly.

Apart from the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House, who are the Chairman and Alternate Chairman of the Council, the members were drawn from the Senate and the House and from across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

The members are Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (South-West), Senator Victor Umeh (South-East), Senator Agom Jarigbe (South-South), Senator Sunday Karimi (North-Central), Senator Aminu Iya Abba (North-East), and Senator Hussaini Babangida Uba (North-West).

Also, on the council are Hon. Mansur Soro (North-East), Hon. Aminu Jaji (North-West), Hon. Sarki Dahiru (North-Central), Hon. Nnolim Nnaji (South-East), Hon. Mark Esset (South-South), and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi (South-West).
